"The whole town, all the arts"

More than 1,500 artists in more than 266 events during 18 days of intense cultural activity graced the celebrations of the 468 anniversary of the founding of Merida, Yucatan. Merida City Council through the Department of Culture, with support from various public and private institutions, is organizing this event which will be the ideal platform to publicize and promote the talents of artists meridians, between local people and visitors.

The Festival of the City rescues and fortifies our folclor conjugating it with the cultural wealth of Argentina, which east year will be the invited country to fill of flavor these festejos, which it will be possible to be enjoyed skillful spectacles of dance, music, theater, visual arts and Literature.

The night of the 5 of January, with the traditional dawn, the wide-awake city with the voice of hundreds of trovadores that sing to him to our beautiful city in the their anniversary eve, with a route accompanied by beautiful songs by trova yucateca, same that initiates in the colonial park “the Heroes” of Santa Lucia towards the Municipal Palace, so that to the sonar of the bells of the average night all in a single voice sing “the mañanitas to him” to the festejada one.

The 6 of January, the meridanos congregate with faith before the majestic altar of the Cathedral of San Idelfonso in a ceremony celebrated in the occasion of the anniversary of foundation of the city of Mérida, founded 6 of January of 1542 by Francisco de Montejo and Leon, son of “Advanced” Francisco de Montejo, in the native seat of T-Ho, the villa of Mérida, today city State Capital of Yucatan. That same day in Municipal Palace, the mayor of the city, heads the session of town hall, ceremony that entails to a reflection on our identity and commitment with the Mérida of today and the morning, in which authorities and citizens are united with pride in festejo by the anniversary, remembering to men I illustrate that they have formed part of our way towards the prosperity and development.
